This is an ancient holy temple situated on the banks of Yerra Kaluva River. Main temple deity Lord Anjaneya is said to reside in a Maddi tree.

As per legends, in Treta Yug, a demon Madvasura was an ardent devotee of Hanuman used to work in the court of Ravan. Though he was rakshasa, he always used to live in a peaceful manner. During Ram-Ravan war in Lanka, Madvasura unwilling to fight against Hanuman and died duly uttering hanuma….hanuma….

Again he was born as Madvakudu during Dwapar Yug and used to work with Kauravas. He was again used to live in a peaceful manner. During Mahabharat war in Kurukshretra, he fought in Kourav Sena. When he has seen Hanuman on the flag of Arjuna’s chariot in the final battle, he left war zone and died instantly.

During Kali Yug, he was born as Madhvudu and touring across the country. While touring so he reached on the banks of River Yerra Kaluva. Daily after taking bath in Yerra Kaluva, he used to perform Hanuman Japam in his ashram. Locals used to treat him as a sage and called Maharishi Madhva.

Out of his old age, he could not able to walk properly. One day, while going to the river bank to take bath he was about to fall in the river, then a monkey held his hand and brought him back to his ashram. Monkey served him with a fruit as his food.

This was happening daily, but sage never thought about the monkey who served him a fruit as his food. After few days, maharshi looked at the monkey and somehow came to know that the monkey is Anjaneya Swamy himself and requested Lord to pardon him.

Then Lord Anjaneya appeared in his actual form and told that he served the Rishi willingly and would also grant a boon of his wish. So, Rishi expressed his desire to be with Anjaneya Swamy all the time. For which God Hanuman asked Rishi to take a shape of a Maddi tree and he is always with him here in the form of an idol (that is self manifested) with fruit on one hand and Gada (Club) on the other hand.

It is believed that unmarried girls will find a good match by performing 108 Pradakshina for seven Tuesdays. Worshipping the Lord on Saturday will reduce the malefic effects of Sani Mahadasha.
